Why branded worlds close: what the public numbers show
Two branded Roblox worlds compared years after launch, the Walmart shutdown, and the signals that tell you in advance a world will not outlive its season.
The closure of a branded world on Roblox gets discussed as a failure. Sometimes it is; sometimes the world ran its campaign and was switched off on schedule. The difference shows up in the numbers, and the numbers are public.
Two worlds, measured 22 August 2026
| Vans World | Chipotle Burrito Builder | |
|---|---|---|
| Visits | 143,840,337 | 38,030,727 |
| Favourites | 659,531 | 255,151 |
| Rating | 90.5% | 67.3% |
| Average session | 5.90 min | 9.29 min |
| Concurrent peak | 30,335 (5 Sep 2021) | 25,918 (7 Apr 2022) |
| Online at check | 91 | 10 |
| Last update | June 2026 | August 2026 |
Figures come from Roblox’s open API and the Rolimon’s aggregator. Anyone can repeat the measurement and get their own numbers for their own date.
What matters in that table
Both worlds are still being updated. Both are long past their peak. What differs is what remained after the peak: about a hundred players in one, ten in the other.
The average session is longer in the world with fewer players. A task inside holds attention better than free roaming, but tasks end and roaming does not.
The Walmart case
In 2022 Walmart launched Universe of Play on Roblox and closed it roughly six months later, in March 2023. The company said that had been the plan from the start; trade press at the time treated the explanation sceptically.
Both readings can be true at once. A campaign with an end date does get switched off on schedule, and it also gets switched off because there is nothing left to continue with.
The signals visible in advance
The mechanic is tied to a promotion. Collect coupons, claim a prize, prize pool ends. That world empties exactly when the giveaway does, and the emptying is built in.
Favourites grow slower than visits. People arrive and do not bookmark. They are not planning to return.
No updates after launch. The last-updated date is public. A world with no edits for three months is a world with no team.
The mechanic has nothing to do with the product. A skate park from a skate-shoe brand explains itself. An obstacle course from a bank needs explaining, and the player never gets the explanation.
What a brand should do about it
Decide at the brief stage which one you are building: a campaign with an end date, or a permanent asset. Both are legitimate. The failure is the third case — launching a campaign and then reporting on it as an asset.
If it is a campaign, decide now what happens to the page afterwards. If it is an asset, budget updates for the whole term rather than the first month.
A Roblox marketing agency that ships worlds, not decks
Most agencies sell you a Roblox strategy and hand the build to someone else. We do both, and we are judged on the same number you are: how many people showed up and how long they stayed.
