Do you have to build a world to try Roblox?

No: there is advertising inside other people's games and there are avatar items. What each entry point gives you, what it costs to start, and which platform requirements apply.

No. There are two ways onto the platform that cost less than building a world: advertising inside other people’s experiences, and releasing an avatar item.

Advertising inside other people’s games

The platform’s formats bill by documented rules: an image counts as an impression after at least one second of visibility, autoplay video after half a second, click-to-play video requires 15 seconds. Portals bill on teleports into your experience.

Roblox publishes no rate card; price comes from the auction. Anyone quoting you a guaranteed CPM is quoting their own estimate.

What it gives: reach, and in the case of portals, actual arrivals into your experience. What it does not give: placement in recommendations, which is computed from organic players.

An avatar item

Uploading an item to the marketplace costs 80 Robux. Marketplace rules on commissions and identity verification apply from there.

The item lands on an avatar and travels with the player across the whole platform, including other people’s worlds. It takes less work than a world and outlives any campaign.

Remember the constraint up front: the item has to be distributed. On its own it generates no traffic.

Requirements people discover late

Running ads requires an advertiser account. For anyone wanting to show ads inside their own experience, the platform requires a public game, an account aged 13+, ID verification with two-step authentication, a completed content maturity questionnaire, and at least 2,000 unique monthly visitors.

A new world does not meet those immediately, which belongs in the plan.

How to sequence a test

Start with advertising: it answers whether your audience responds to the brand inside the platform, and costs less than development.

Then an item: it answers whether people will wear your brand on an avatar.

And only then a world, once there is data showing the first two steps work.

When this route does not fit

When the brief genuinely needs space: co-play, a long session, a mechanic built around the product. Advertising buys seconds of contact, an item buys presence, a world buys minutes of engagement. Different jobs.

What we do about it

Roblox advertising, and when it is the wrong thing to buy

Immersive ads are the easiest thing to buy on Roblox and the easiest to waste money on. Here is how each format behaves once real players meet it, and where the spend belongs instead.
