Where does Roblox fit in an annual marketing plan?

As a line with its own budget and calendar, decided early enough to be built. How brands schedule a world across a year, and where it collides with the rest of the plan.

Roblox lands in annual plans in one of two shapes, and choosing between them early is what makes the budget realistic.

Two shapes, different economics

A campaign world attached to a moment: a launch, a season, a film, a holiday. It peaks and it fades, and the plan should say so from the start.

An always-on presence that is updated through the year. Higher total cost, and the only version that compounds.

Brands frequently budget for the first and expect the second.

Work backwards from the date

Production runs backwards from launch: concept, grey-box, art, integrations, testing. Add your own approval passes, and add the security review if the world connects to a CRM or loyalty programme — in large companies that alone runs to weeks.

A world tied to a seasonal moment needs its decision made a long way ahead of the moment. Briefs that arrive six weeks before a holiday get a scope cut, not a schedule.

Budget three lines, not one

Build. Distribution — creators, seeding, in-platform placement, since a world with no traffic plan is an empty room. Live-ops, monthly, from launch to the end of the plan year.

The third line is the one that gets cut and the one whose absence kills worlds in month two.

Where it collides with the rest of the plan

Approval capacity. A Roblox build wants regular review passes from the same people running the rest of the calendar.

Asset production. Characters and identity work overlap with other channels, which is an opportunity when planned and a queue when it is not.

Media flighting. Portal and video campaigns are planned against platform rules that differ from social — audience age governs categories and claims.

The pilot slot

If this is a first year, book a pilot in the first quarter. The flagship belongs in the year you have evidence for it. Four to six weeks and $5,000 to $20,000 produces evidence, and the rest of the year’s planning improves for having it.

What to write in the plan

The objective, one metric, the shape (campaign or always-on), the decision date, three budget lines, and the name of the person who owns month four. Everything else is production detail.

What we do about it

Roblox brand activations that outlive the campaign flight

The usual activation goes live, spikes for a week, and is a dead server by the time the wrap deck is circulated. That is a design failure, not a platform limit — and it is avoidable.
