How do you calculate cost per engaged player in Roblox?

Total cost divided by the players who did the thing you cared about. Defining 'engaged' before the build is what makes the number honest rather than flattering.

Brands need one number to put beside the rest of the plan, and this is the most defensible one available. It is also easy to make meaningless by choosing a generous denominator.

The formula

Total project cost, divided by the number of players who completed the action you defined as engagement.

Total cost means the build, the distribution and the live-ops for the period being measured. Leaving live-ops out produces a number that improves every month while the world quietly declines.

Define “engaged” before you build

The definition has to be a thing the player did, and it has to be a thing the world can record.

Completed the core loop once. Reached level three. Redeemed a code. Returned on a second day. Any of those work. “Visited” does not, because it counts people who left in ten seconds.

Write the definition into the brief, since it usually needs instrumentation and that is a build task.

What to compare it against

Your own alternatives, at the same definition of engagement. Cost per completed video view. Cost per event attendee. Cost per sampled unit.

The comparison is fair only when both sides count a person who did something. Cost per impression on one side and cost per engaged player on the other is a rigged table, and the rigging usually gets noticed.

The number improves in two ways

More players through the same build, which is a distribution question.

More of the arrivals reaching the engagement threshold, which is a design question and usually the cheaper of the two.

If under a third of arrivals reach your threshold, the first thirty seconds is where to spend the next money.

What it looks like over time

For a campaign world, calculate it once at the end of the flight.

For an always-on world, recalculate monthly with live-ops included. A world whose cost per engaged player falls over months is compounding; one where it climbs is decaying, and the report should say so before the annual review does.

The caveat to state out loud

This number says nothing about who those players were. Reach and relevance are separate questions, and a low cost per engaged player among an audience you do not sell to is an efficient way to buy nothing.

What we do about it

What a Roblox world actually costs to build

Real ranges, published: a pilot runs $5,000–20,000, a full branded world $30,000–250,000. Where a project lands inside those brackets comes down to four things, and you can size your budget against them before talking to anyone.
