How does a brand approve creative for a Roblox world?
A world gets reviewed in stages, and each stage has a different question. Reviewing a grey-box prototype for beauty is how good projects get broken.
Approval processes built for film and print misfire here, because the thing being reviewed is playable and most of its value sits in behaviour rather than in a frame.
Review the loop before the look
The first thing to sign off is a document: what the player does in the first thirty seconds, what they earn, why they return tomorrow. Get this wrong and no amount of art repairs it.
Approve it as a concept, in writing, before the prototype starts.
Judge the grey-box on play
The prototype arrives untextured, unbranded and ugly. That is the format working as intended. The question at this review is whether the mechanic is fun and legible, and the answer comes from playing it for ten minutes.
The failure mode here is a review meeting that rejects the prototype for looking unfinished. Brands skip this stage because there is nothing to show the board, and skipping it locks in the expensive decisions.
Bring the brand rules to the art stage
Now identity applies: palette, typefaces, characters, sound. Send the guidelines with a note on which rules are firm and which can flex, since a space that obeys every print rule literally plays like a showroom.
Check rights at this stage. Music and typefaces inside a game need licences the way a film does.
Run compliance in parallel, not at the end
Platform rules, category restrictions and market law get reviewed against the same assets, at the same time. Legal arriving after the art is finished is the most common cause of a rebuilt launch.
The one thing to check on device
Play it on a phone. Most of the audience is on mobile, and text sized for a monitor is unreadable there. Reviews held only on a laptop miss this every time.
Agree the number of rounds
Two rounds per stage, with a fixed turnaround, written into the plan. Open-ended approval is the single largest cause of schedule slip on the brand’s side of these projects.
What “approved” has to mean
Named person, dated, against a named build. Verbal approval in a call is how two teams end up remembering different decisions in month three.
Roblox brand activations that outlive the campaign flight
The usual activation goes live, spikes for a week, and is a dead server by the time the wrap deck is circulated. That is a design failure, not a platform limit — and it is avoidable.
